Just an update on the books I bought today:
The Great Gatsby
I've wanted to read this book for a while. One of my favourite books is The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and in that book, the main character, Charlie, is given different books to read by his English teacher. I plan on reading all of those books, and this is one of them.
An Abundance Of Katherines and Looking For Alaska
Anyone who read my previous post about books I want to read this summer will know how excited I am to have bought these. I've just started An Abundance Of Katherines, so should have that finished in a day or two.
Fangirl
I've never heard of this book before, or the author, Rainbow Rowell; it just caught my eye. I'll be posting a full book review when I finish it.
Just a place for me to collect all my opinions and emotions on the beautiful, bizarre and sometimes heartbreaking world that is literature

A Twist In The Tale
Following on from my last post, I've decided to write more traditional fairy tales with a twist. This is the first one, which I'll post in different parts as I'm working on it.
Okay, so you think you know the story of the three little pigs? You've heard it plenty of times when you were younger - right? But do you know the real story? The rough carpet scratching your legs as you sit cross legged in nursery; a soft, comforting quilt tucked under your chin and your mummy or daddy by your side. As a child you thought 'poor little pigs!' when you discovered how the terrible wolf had plagued them.
Have you ever considered, just for a moment, that the world famous fairy tale is a lie? Well, maybe it's time you did...
Before we start, please make sure there are no children present - I'd hate to ruin their illusions about the poor, victimized little pigs (ha!) and the wolf with the devil inside him. Okay...if you're sure (I did warn you)...I'll start (and if you're expecting one of those 'once upon a time...blah blah blah...happily ever after stories, stop reading now!)
* * * *
Furious, harsh, unforgiving. The freezing cold wind attacked everything in sight, drawing blood with its sharp claws, just out of spite. Shivering in the icy winter air, a wolf stumbled slowly through the thick, menacing forest.
* * * *
I bet you thought all fairy tales started when the sun was shining and everyone was smiling! You did, din't you? Well think again.
* * * *
Tortured by the terrible conditions for days, the wolf was desperate to find shelter. Despite his thick, soft fur the rain, wind and snow attacked relentlessly. But luck was with him - a bright sun appeared and guided him to the perfect home...and guess what - he lived happily ever after!
* * * *
You wish...
The wolf did find a house; but only after battling with the elements. And when he got there, it was far from perfect.

A Twist In The Tale
A while ago, I had to write a well known fairy tale in less than 100 words, but with a twist, as a project for school. This was the result:
Broken
Cold but soothing, the glass slipper was like silk on my skin. Luxurious things drifted past my eyes on clouds, as I imagined the life I would lead. Gazing into those chocolate eyes, my heart melted. Swimming in radiant thoughts. My brain sent a beaming smile to my lips; I realised the slipper fitted. Crash. The eyes shattered; the slipper splintered; my dreams disintegrated. Shivering, I pulled my ragged clothes closer - they didn't warm my heart from the icy mist. Suffocating, savage shadows danced on the extremity of my mind. Monstrous. The slipper didn't fit. I'm still a slave. Surprised?

5 Books I Need To Read This Summer
I love having a list books I can't wait to read when I have some free time. Here are five of the books I plan on reading this summer:
4. Junk - Melvin Burgess
I read 'The Hit' by Melvin Burgess a few months ago, and I couldn't put it down. Although this isn't the sort of thing I would normally read, I loved it, so I'm looking forward to reading another book by this very talented author.
3. An Abundance Of Katherines (and other books written by John Green) - John Green
Like many other teenagers who are even remotely interested in reading, I fell in love with The Fault In Our Stars. I'm planning on reading all of John Green's books. This one just caught my eye because of the title; I love the character Katherine Pierce from The Vampire Diaries, which is one of my favourite TV shows.
2. The Bane Chronicles - Cassandra Clare
The Bane Chronicles are a series of ten short books that tell the backstory of the character Magnus Bane, a mysteries warlock who appears The Mortal Instruments. Magnus Bane is one of my favourite literacy characters so I can't wait to read these books, which promise to be funny in addition to being very well written.
1. The True Lives Of My Chemical Romance: An Insightful Biography - Tom Bryant
My Chemical Romance, an alternative rock band from New Jersey, is my favourite band, so I can't wait to find out more about them from this biography, written by Kerrang! writer Tom Bryant.
5. Extras - Scott Westerfeld
'Extras' is a companion novel for the Uglies trilogy, by Scott Westerfeld. Uglies is set in a world where cosmetic surgery is compulsory the day you turn sixteen, giving everyone supermodel-like beauty. But not everyone thinks the operation is a good thing. Having recently finished the Uglies trilogy, I can't wait to read this book.

Dear Imaginary Readers...
Dear imaginary readers,
First of all, I'd just like to say thank you for taking the time to visit my blog. I'm very new to the whole blogging thing (in case it wasn't obvious) so please bear with me for a little while. Hopefully, this blog will give me more experience of writing on a regular basis, as I hope to become a journalist in the future. So writing experience will definitely be helpful.
Anyway...I've been trying to decide what to write about for quite a while now. Everyone says it should be something I'm interested in and that I'm passionate about, but that doesn't really help. There are a number of topics I'd like to write about, and I have no idea what my imagination will end up spitting out from one day to the next.
Eventually, I decided on books. It makes sense to write about the thing that sparked my interest in writing in the first place, doesn't it? So that's what I'm going to do. On this blog you'll find the books I love, the books I hate, the books that made me want to throw them across the room (and sometimes I did), as well as the books I want to read. Basically, if it's got something to do with books, I'll write about it. I might include some of my own short stories and general ramblings too. If you love books as much as I do, then I'm sure you will love my blog.
Well, I hope you will anyway.
XoXo h
